With the European Central Bank and US Federal Reserve considering developing a digital euro and dollar, the Frankfurt convening will facilitate much needed exchanges between policymakers and the private sector on how to design regulation for central bank digital currencies (CBDCs). What new international standards and regulations might be necessary to ensure CBDCs are interoperable and protect financial stability as well as users’ privacy? The conference will foster a discussion on how the two sides of the Atlantic can align regulatory priorities to outline a roadmap toward CBDC privacy rules and imbue CBDC standards with democratic values.
